Andre León Marie Nicolas Rieu (Netherlands: André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu, born Oct. 1, 1949, Maastricht) is a Dutch conductor and violinist, named in the press by the Waltz King after Johann Strauss-son. Son of the conductor Andre Rieu Sr.. He studied in Liege, then in Maastricht, in 1977 he graduated from the Brussels Conservatoire; Among the teachers of Ryo were, in particular, Andre Gertler and Hermann Krebbers. He played the second violin at the Limburg Symphony Orchestra under the guidance of his father.
Having founded the Maastricht Salon Orchestra, which consisted of just a few musicians, Rieu performed with them in Dutch nursing homes, performing Viennese waltzes. In 1987, under the leadership of Rieux, Johann Strauss Orchestra appeared, originally comprising 12 performers. In 1992, the orchestra recorded the first disc, "Merry Christmas" (English Merry Christmas); In 1994, the recording of the Second Waltz from Suite for the pop orchestra Dmitry Shostakovich made Ryo and his new band famous throughout the Netherlands, and the second album, Strauss and Co., did not leave the national page for about a year. The recording of Shostakovich's waltz is used in the musical composition of Stanley Kubrick's film "With wide eyes closed".
Later, Ryo with his orchestra toured extensively throughout the world, produced up to seven albums (studio and concert) a year, increased the orchestra's composition to 50-55 musicians. By 2008, Pieu albums were sold in an amount of 27 million copies.
Popular in the performance of Rieu, accompanied by the orchestrated Johann Strauss, was the waltz of Anthony Hopkins and The Waltz Goes On ("And the waltz continues", German - "Life goes on").
